Easter is one of the most important holidays for Christians—and one of the biggest. On this day, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the central tenet of Christianity, is celebrated. Following centuries-old Easter traditions, locals and visitors to Lviv prepare Easter baskets, bake sweet paska bread, and paint pysanky, the classic decorated Easter eggs to have them consecrated at the city’s old churches. Easter is also a family holiday. After a Mass, people go back to their homes to continue celebrating with their relatives, gathering together at a festivetable with traditional Ukrainian dishes.
