Ukraine is capable of exporting a considerable part of its agricultural output, said Leonid Kozachenko, President of the Ukrainian Agricultural Confederation. He added that potentially the country could provide food to 600 million people worldwide.

Over June 13-14, a panel discussion called “Investing in Ukraine’s Farm Sector: Let’s feed the world together!” took place in Kyiv as part of the First International Annual Business Conference “ABC: Ukraine & Partners.” Participants discussed how to increase investment in Ukraine’s agricultural sector, in particular in areas such as the production of grains and oilseed, food processing, mechanical engineering, and logistics.

Ukraine continues to hold a leading position in grain production and has 9.2% of the global grain market. With increasing demand in foreign markets, Ukraine can expect to continue expanding its presence in this sector. In response, the Government plans to keep expanding cooperation with both domestic and foreign market players, Ukraine’s Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Mykola Prysiazhniuk announced.

Over June, 1-4, 2013, Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysiazhniuk was on a working visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he discussed ways to expand cooperation between the two countries in the farm sector, infrastructure and investment.

The Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points system (HACCP) is considered in food industry to provide the most complete quality assurance and product safety control. At this time, Ukraine’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food is working on legislation that would obligate market players to introduce the HACCP or its equivalent.
