President Yushchenko reports farm sector milestones on world markets
December 22, 2009
Ukraine’s President Viktor Yushchenko reports that Ukraine is improving its position on world agricultural markets.
The press service of the Head of State reported that, based on the results for the last year, the President says that Ukraine is the world’s top exporter of barley and sunflower oil, its fourth largest exporter of maize and sixth for wheat exports. The President noted that every fourth dollar of Ukrainian exports comes from agricultural commodities. Mr. Yushchenko also expressed the conviction that Ukraine will soon take a leading position in canola (rapeseed) and soy.
“Proof of this is that what we’re seeing in Ukraine’s agricultural sector today is only the first of those horizons that we have the potential to reach,” said Mr. Yushchenko. The President added that turning this potential into reality depended entirely on having properly trained specialists in the agricultural sector.
