Cabinet extends grain quotas until March 2011

Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers has extended quotas on exported grain until March 2011, Agricultural Policy Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk told the press recently.
“We have extended quotas until March and increased the quota by 1.5 million t,” the Minister stated, adding: “This means 500,000 t more of wheat and 1 million t more of maize.”
According to news agency reports, the Economy Ministry proposed an increase in the quota for exported grain by 1.5mn t to 4.2mn t and an extension on the quota until April 2011.
Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers instituted an export quota on grains of 2.7mn t, including 500,000 t of wheat, 2mn t of maize, 200,000 t of barley and 1,000 t each of rye and buckwheat, to the end of 2010.
On November 12, the Commission for Agricultural Quotas had shared out the export quota as 500,000 t wheat, 200,000 t barley, and 1.481,819 t maize.
