Ukraine will ship up to 32mn tonnes of grain globally in 2014
March 19, 2014
In the current year, Ukraine will export up to 32mn tonnes of grain, making it the world’s second largest exporter of wheat after the United States, said Volodymyr Klymenko, President of Ukrainian Grain Association, during his speech at the First International Ukrainian Wheat to the World! Conference, which took place in Hong Kong on March 2-4.
Klymenko said that in the late 1990s Ukraine was producing up to 30mn t of grain without any export opportunities and last year total grain output exceeded 60mn t.
The conference participants noted that Ukraine had enormous potential to expand its grain production, adding that its position on the global food market would continue to consolidate from year to year.
With this event, the organizers, the APK Inform News Agency and the Ukrainian Grain Association, launched a series of road shows across Southeast Asia aimed at presenting the potential of Ukraine’s grain sector to this region.
The International Ukrainian Wheat to the World! Conference is the first of its kind and was attended by more than 120 delegates from 13 countries. The participants were able to establish contact with potential partners in Eastern and Southeastern Asia, and to discuss how to expand partnerships and cultural relationships between Ukrainian and world grain producers. They also discussed how to increase opportunities to apply promising agricultural technologies.
