Ukraine’s agronomists anticipate record grain yields
July 15, 2014
According to forecasts from Ukraine’s agrometeorologists, the country’s total grain harvest could reach 63 million tonnes in 2014, a record yield for independent Ukraine, Hydrometeorological Center Director Mykola Kulbida reported at a briefing on July 7.
Specifically, this year’s winter grain harvest is expected to be 26.7mn t, spring barley 5.3mn t, spring wheat 0.4mn t, maize 29.3mn t, and other cereals 1.3mn t. Kulbida noted that this forecast included the harvest in Crimea, which was expected to yield 1.2mn t of grain.
According to the weather station, this year’s bumper harvest is due to good weather conditions during the wintering of winter crops and sowing of spring crops.
