Ukraine Exports Onions to Iraq
February 10, 2017
Ukraine has significantly increased its yellow onion exports rate. Lviv-based Info-Shuvar Data Centre reported that Ukraine had sold over 5,000 tons of onions on the foreign markets.
Exports geography has changed considerably: while in the first half of the season almost 50 percent of overall onions shipments accounted for Moldova, Iraq became the leading onions consumer in the current season, having purchased more than 2,500 tons of onions from Ukraine in the last six months.
Thereafter, Ukraine can increase onion exports to Iraq to an unprecedented rate.
There has been a certain rise in exports to the EU as well. Bulgaria and Great Britain became Ukraine’s biggest onion consumers among the EU members, as shipments to those countries increased sixfold and doubled respectively.
Noteworthy, Britain consumed 1.4 tons of peeled onions. This amount already exceeded Ukraine’s overall onion exports in the past season, which means there’s another record to be made in export of this product.
